    Our Career Counselling Initiatives

    We take career counselling initiatives at ‘Gillco International School’ to support students in making informed decisions about choosing the streams and ideal career paths. Face to face counselling of grade 8 to 12 students to understand the importance of career planning, conducting psychometric assessments to understand one’s own aptitude and attitude, organizing various sessions and seminars in the campus to enlighten the students of the courses and opportunities available all around, holding national and international university fairs to broaden the horizon of students, identifying and motivating students’ interests and inherent talents, personal support in admission process are the key features of the Career guidance program. The school believes in building up professional tie ups with the admission coordinators of renowned colleges and universities spread worldwide for the benefits to GIS students. The overall mentoring of the child is the main aim of the Career Counselling Cell.

    INITIATIVES FOR CAREER GROWTH

    We dedicated the month of January 2022 to the Career Counselling initiatives by celebrating Australia Day, US Day and Canada Day by organizing eventful and informative virtual career fairs.The University of Sydney, Australian National University and Monash University participated in Australia Career Day on 8thJanuary. Ohio University, University of Texas – Arlington, The University of Kansas, The University of Tennessee, San Diego State University & University of Delaware participated in US Career Day on 15th January. University of British Columbia, McMaster University, University of Waterloo, York University, Queen’s University & Ryerson University participated in the Canada Career Day on 29th January. These Universities informed the students on Admission modalities, various scholarship schemes as well as took them through Virtual Campus Tour.

    GIS invited Ms. Surabhi Dewra, India’s renowned Motivational Speaker and Career Counselor for a Virtual interactive session on “Career Myths and Realities/New Age Careers”, on 22nd January addressing students, parents

    Students & GIS faculty Ms. Surabhi took the audience through various facets of career paths & subject combinations and at the same time she informed them about New Age Careers. The captivating session was applauded by everyone. She complimented the school for the great career initiatives taken in such a short span of time.

    GIS organized a Mega Physical Career Fair on 13th May, 2022, which witnessed a magnificent response with more than 500 students from grades 8th to 12th as well as their parents, participating in the Fair. More than 40 Universities and around 60 Delegates participated in this first of its kind Physical Career Fair organized in the Tricity, which included prominent Universities from Canada, Australia, United States and India.

    Ms. Surabhi Dewra inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp and enlightened students and parents on New Age Careers and 21st Century Skills, and kept the audience captivated by her engaging and interactive introductory session. She also applauded the Career Counselling initiatives by the School including Free Psychometric assessments for students followed by one on one counselling and more than 15 Virtual Career Webinars and workshops.

    Students and parents actively participated in one-on-one counselling with their preferred University Delegates by knowing more about Admission modalities, scholarship programs and other exhaustive details of the relevant courses of their choice. The Career Fair was a day long initiative amidst amazing hospitality, and excellent infrastructure arrangements by the School Management.

    GIS organized a motivational session on ‘Strategic Career Planning’ in its campus on 20th May,2022. The event witnessed a huge response with more than 100 students from 10th to 12th grade participating in the session. Mr.PrikshitDhanda, a Harvard Alumnus and one of the most sought after Career, Leadership and life coaches in the country guided and enlightened students. Also, he is the Chief Strategy Officer of MINDLER, a leading Career Counselling organization of the country and has coached & mentored more than 2 million students across countries. He captivated the students with his charismatic, interactive and insightful delivery of the session and provided the students with details on time management skills, emotional quotient regulation while preparing for exams, ideal career options for all students based on their interest, personality, aptitude, orientation style and emotional quotient. He emphasized on the significance of research skills while looking for career options and laid a great impetus on students being abreast on current affairs and general knowledge. Students thoroughly enjoyed the session and there were a lot of questions by the inquisitive audience,which he promptly answered.

    With a purpose of giving impetus to new Age Careers, a knowledge session on a promising New Age Career captioned “Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning” by Mr. Atul Mishra, an accomplished subject matter expert from School of Engineering & Technology, BML Munjal University Gurgaon, was organized in GIS campus on 27th July. It was a very insightful session with the students and faculty thoroughly enjoying it. All students were awarded with certificates of participation.

    GIS organized a Workshop on “Thinking beyond Engineering” on 26thAugust which witnessed a magnificent response with more than 130 students from grades 9th to 12thparticipating in the Workshop. Dr. Padmakumar Nair, Dean TSLAS (Thapar School of Liberal Arts and Sciences) captivated the students with his charismatic delivery of the Workshop and took students to the unconventional careers beyond engineering.
