The 77th Independence Day of India was celebrated with immense patriotic zeal and enthusiasm by Gillco International School, Mohali on 15 August 2023 where the students showcased their patriotism and pride for the nation through a series of spectacular dance and music performances. The celebration commenced with the flag-hoisting ceremony where the unfurling of the National Flag was followed by the National Anthem and the release of a myriad of tricolour balloons into the sky. The students, dressed in the vibrant colours of the nation – green, white and saffron – performed a medley of heart touching patriotic songs complemented by the harmonious tunes of the keyboard. Through their serenade, they declared to be willing to sacrifice everything for their nation and rejoiced in the unity that continued to exist despite their diversity. Most memorable moments were marked by golden words of advice and motivation by worthy Principal, MS. Ruchi Sharma. She addressed the gathering by reiterating the way our brave freedom fighters sacrificed their lives, happiness and families – just so we could enjoy the taste of liberty. She encouraged the students to remain Indian at heart, whichever part of the world they decided to live in. Through a real-life experience, she further said that a single wrongdoing has the capacity to overshadow every good thing a person has achieved, which is why one must refrain from doing wrong. She also emphasized on helping the helpless and guiding the lost. She concluded by saying that she takes pride in her students and staff, and thanked them for their enthusiastic participation in the event.
